The Auckland Unitary Plan (AUP) is designed to help Auckland meet its economic and housing needs – no small task, particularly in the current economic climate and amid concerns about housing availability. Those managing the AUP must also deal with legislation that takes priority, and processes that carve out parts of the plan.
Through personal or professional experience, many non-specialist practitioners will know a little bit about the AUP but perhaps not enough to understand its impact for their clients nor how to engage with Auckland Council and work with the plan. This session will provide an update for general practitioners and non-specialists on where the AUP is at – where we’ve got to and what’s ahead.
- Become apprised of how the AUP has come to this point.
- Develop a better understanding of how the AUP operates.
- Become updated on the AUP’s current state including in relation to appeals, plan changes, notices of requirement, monitoring overview and responses to national direction.
- Gain insights into applicant perspectives in dealing with council, including how to get the best out of PPC processes and how to work best to achieve outcomes through discussions rather than litigation.
Who should attend?
General practitioners and non-specialists in Auckland/those dealing with Auckland matters, and any other legal professionals with an interest in the AUP. Those involved in associated disciplines (eg planners, surveyors, engineers) may also find the session useful.
