Membership Options

Lawyer Member

Lawyers who hold a current New Zealand practising certificate as a barrister or barrister and solicitor can apply to be a Lawyer Member of ADLS.

The 2022/23 membership term runs from 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2023. The membership fee for this term is $262.50 plus GST per Lawyer Member. Applications from eligible individuals may be accepted at any time during the year and the membership fee will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Note: All membership applications submitted to ADLS will require verification and may take time to finalise. Only Lawyer Members and Qualified Members are eligible to vote and be nominated for the council. Membership fees paid to ADLS are non-refundable.

Contributing Member

Contributing Membership of ADLS is available to individuals who can demonstrate an interest in or engagement with the law. Legal Executives may apply to be a Contributing Member.

The 2022/23 membership term runs from 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2023. The membership fee for this term is $262.50 plus GST per Contributing Member. Applications from eligible individuals may be accepted at any time during the year and the membership fee will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

NZ Legal Executives who are employed by an ADLS member, can join as Contributing Members for a special rate of $50 plus GST, per year.

Note: All membership applications submitted to ADLS will require verification and may take time to finalise. Only Lawyer Members and Qualified Members are eligible to vote and be nominated for Council. Membership fees paid to ADLS are non-refundable.

Qualified Member

Individuals who hold a legal qualification at least at the level of Bachelor of Laws from a university in New Zealand or an equivalent legal qualification from a foreign university, but do not hold a current New Zealand practising certificate can apply to be a Qualified Member of ADLS.

The 2022/23 membership term runs from 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2023. The membership fee for this term is $262.50 plus GST per Qualified Member. Applications from eligible individuals may be accepted at any time during the year and the membership fee will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Student Member

Law students in New Zealand are invited to become an ADLS member for free, for as long as they remain a law student.
