This part of our web site provides information for the general public about lawyers and the legal system.
Please note that ADLS cannot give legal advice.

The following sections may be useful for you:

Find a lawyer - enter your requirements to view a list of lawyers who practise in the field of law you are concerned with.

Legal Aid - a link to the Ministry of Justice website for further information about the agency that helps provide advice and assistance for people who cannot afford legal services.

New Zealand Law Society - NZLS is the legal professions regulatory body. NZLS also provides information pamphlets to inform you of your legal rights, the law and how lawyers can help you.

LINZ - Land Information New Zealand is responsible for all land titles issues and maintains the Landonline system which is the means by which titles may be searched and transferred.

MBIE - Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Essential website for law, policy, guidelines and advice.

Companies Office - a free service maintained by the MBIE - the primary way in which details as to companies and their directors may be identified and PPSR searches may be carried out.

NZLII - free access to New Zealand legal information including case law, legislation and law review articles.

IRD - this website provides essential information relating to tax law, policy, enforcement and budgets.

Ministry of Justice - this contains the contact information for all Courts throughout the country and has a wealth of information on legal aid and court/tribunal issues.

Legislation - this website contains access to all New Zealand statutes free of charge.

Law Commission - home of the New Zealand Law Commission, an independent Crown entity, containing a variety of comprehensive reports and issues papers analysing the historical and current state of the law along with recommendations for its reform.

NZX - NZX provides real-time, delayed, end of day and historical data to customers generated by trading activity on NZX's markets and is available directly from NZX or through licensed Data Distributors.

FMA - The Financial Markets Authority enforces securities, financial reporting and company law as they apply to financial services and securities markets. They also regulate securities exchanges, financial advisers and brokers, trustees and issuers - including issuers of KiwiSaver and superannuation schemes.

Parliament - the official website of the New Zealand Parliament contains details of Parliamentary Business, Bills, Select Committees and MP's.

Beehive - the official website of the New Zealand Government.

REINZ - Real Estate Institute of New Zealand provides statistical information on the housing market and publishes forms and codes of practice for Real Estate agents.

REAA - Real Estate Agents Authority is an independent government regulator of the real estate industry and provides information for buyers and sellers, provide guidance for agents and deals with complaints about agents' behaviour.

Auckland Council - the official website of Auckland Council containing information on rates, licensing, regulation, plans, policies and news relating to the Auckland region.
