A key part of our planning has been a review of the ADLS brand. ADLS is a national organization and as such, we would like our name to reflect our New Zealand footprint. To achieve this, the ADLS Council is proposing an organization name change.
It is proposed that the name Auckland District Law Society Incorporated be changed to The Law Association Incorporated, ‘The Law Association’.
Bringing about a name change does not mean we are losing any of our ADLS legacy. We will be carrying this forward and building on the hard work achieved over many years.
A change of name requires an amendment to the rules and we would like to seek Member approval. There are two changes that Members will be asked to vote on by (electronic) postal ballot under rule 25.
(a) Rule 2.1 be amended by changing the name “Auckland District Law Society
Incorporated” to “The Law Association Incorporated”, and the reference in the rule to “the
Society” to “the Association”; and
(b) all references in the rules to “the Society” be changed to “the Association”.
Over the coming weeks, we will be in touch with more information about the proposed changes. This will be scheduled under General Business at the ADLS AGM on 2 March 2023 and Members are invited to ask questions and discuss the change. In addition, general information and FAQ’s are available for you to view online now.
At this stage we expect the postal ballot (via electronic means) to happen two to three weeks following the AGM. This will be confirmed next week.
Should you have any initial questions regarding the proposed changes please do not hesitate to get in touch via membership@adls.org.nz

Marie Dyhrberg KC
